Brian P. Dell, Director of Bands
Brian P. Dell was appointed Director of Bands at Gaither HS in 2004. He is responsible for three Concert Bands, Percussion, Jazz, & Chamber Ensembles, AP Music Theory, and the Marching Cowboys. During his tenure at Gaither, the Wind Ensemble earned the Otto J Kaushaar award and straight superior rating at FBA State Concert MPA during the 05-06, 06-07, and 09-10 school years - the first in school history. The Wind Ensemble was also invited as a demo band for the 2008 FMEA State Music Educators Convention. The Percussion Ensemble has performed at the prestigious Bands of America National Percussion Festival in Indianapolis in March 2007, the USF Marimba Festival in 2007and 2010, and the FMEA State Music Educators Convention in 2008 and 2010. The Marching Cowboys participated in the 55th Presidential Inaugural in Washington D.C., the Governor's Inaugural Parade in Tallahassee, and various parades acrose the Tampa Bay Area. The music program has grown to include 3 full time teachers, several guitar, keyboard, orchestra, jazz, percussion and auxiliary classes offered during the day, which serves around 500 students daily.
Before coming to Gaither, Mr. Dell was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at LSU where he earned a Master’s Degree in Instrumental Conducting and Percussion, studying with Professor Frank Wickes and Dr. Brett William Dietz. Previous teaching experience includes 2 years at Leon High School (assistant director) and 2 years at Fairview Middle School, both in Tallahassee, FL. Dell earned a B.M.E. degree and a minor in psychology from the Florida State University (1998).
Mr. Dell serves the FBA Board as the District VII Chairperson and Coordinator for the 9-10 All-State Band, and was a former District III Secretary (2000-02). He is also the current Florida State Chair for the National Band Association (NBA). Dell has also severed as the Hillsborough 9-10 All County Band Chair from 06-08. Other professional associations include CBDNA, MENC, PAS, FMEA, Phi Mu Alpha, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
