Marching Season -

The Color Guard is the visual ensemble that greatly enhances the performances of the Gaither High School band. Members learn from skilled instructors in the areas of flag, rifle, saber and dance. The Color Guard meets Tuesdays from 3:15 - 7:00pm, Wednesdays 3:15 - 4:15, Thursdays 4-8:30pm. The Color Guard continues in the spring semester each year with "Winter Guard", an activity that begins at the end of marching season in November and concludes in mid-April. Students in the fall Color Guard are expected to participate in the Winter Guard/ Dance program.

Dance Season- During the months of November to April, the colorguard takes a break from the football field and band, and learns two different styles of dance based on their movement skills. This year we will have 14 girls on Team A, which will be featuring a lyrical piece by Richard Horton and Heather Barrick of Frank Rey. Team B will be cheorographed by Mary Jo's Performing Arts Academy. We look forward to a successful dance season!!!

Winterguard Season -  During the months of November to April, the colorguard takes a break from the football field and band, and goes in for a competitive season of their own. In what has now become winterguard, an average of 15 girls go indoors to the gym and lay out a 4 minute show with drill design similar to that of marching band. Dance, flag, and weapon are used to express the music, which can be anything from classical to contemporary. Props may also be used to enhance this expression. Winter Guard International is the largest supporting organization, which holds regional competitions across the world from February to March. The general season ender is the World Championships, which determine the best of the best from all over the world held the 1st or 2nd weekend in April.

2009 was Gaither High School's first year as a competitive winterguard and we are 16 strong. Follow their success on www.ffcc.org.
